Lantern Lecture: Karoline Baelum

  • Artica Svalbard Vei 608-3 LONGYEARBYEN Norway (map)

Farmhamna, Photo: Karoline Baelum

This dark season we take inspiration from an age-old form of public event the Lantern Lecture – a form of diversion and education from the 1870s through the early 1900s. The magic lantern illustrated scientific lectures, entertainment, current events discussion, political campaigns, missionary fundraising, and humanitarian causes.

Our next lecture will focus on Farmhamna, one of the last private trapper stations left in Svalbard and Karoline Baelum and her family have owned it for the past 7 years. Through photos, films and fun stories she will talk about their journey from normal Longyearbyen residents to full time trappers and back again. About learning the job, what to do and, more importantly, what not to do.

This event is free and takes place at Artica. No booking required.
