Introduction to Linocut: one-colour and multi-colour printing lead by Cathrine Alice Liberg, Artist-in-Residence
When: Saturday 11th May 11:00-15:00 and Sunday 12th May 11:00-15:00
Location: Artica Svalbard, Vei 608-3
Join Artica and Cathrine Alice Liberg for this two-day introduction to lino printmaking. Linocut printmaking is a relief printing technique in which you use V-shaped or U-shaped metal gouges to carve away parts of a linoleum plate, thus creating a relief image which can be inked and printed onto paper. This can be done both by hand at home, or in a printing press.
In this course you will learn how to make your own linocut print. The first day we will be making a single-coloured print, experimenting with different tools for mark making and different methods for printing. On the second day we will be showing you different ways of printing a multi-coloured print, using layering, reduction and puzzle techniques.
The aim of the course is to give you the confidence and foundation you need to further develop your printmaking practice at home!
Please bring:
Packed lunch
Work wear (we can provide aprons)
Please prepare a simple line drawing in advance measuring 15 x 21 cm, which we can transfer onto the lino plate.
This course is for both beginners and for those with basic knowledge of linocut printing. This course is mainly targeted at adults, but is available for anyone over the age of 12. We will be using non-toxic printing inks which do not require solvents.
To book a place please contact info@articasvalbard.no (8 places available)
We will prioritise those who can make it both days, but if available space, the course is also open for those that can only make it Saturday or Sunday
